Monday morning….oh! It’s happened again! The week was a blur and now the weekend is over too...Does this sound like any familiar voice you are hearing this morning? Many times the weekend sneaks up on us, we forget to go grocery shopping, clean the house you know, that stuff!) and now we are cramming in peanut butter toasted waffles into lunch bags in hopes that the school doesn’t notice! You’re scanning the fridge and dropping a soft apple into each bag consciously pushing out the hypothetical judgement of other moms!
Let’s take just a second and backtrack. Just as you were once a new mom making promises into the eyes of your newborn, or a feisty girlfriend professing your love to your partner, and (even further back) you were also a child yourself with everything in front of you, everything. What did that child dream about? Were you going to grow up and travel the world? Perhaps you were going to be a mom to a thousand pets and have pink leopard furniture!
Connecting with your inner child, your inner self takes mindfulness and effort. It is SO easy to say “YES YES YES” to the world and put things in front of that little girl’s dreams. I believe in the phrase: “Your life is a culmination of every decision you’ve ever made”. Whether that was to have 1 desserts or 2 a few too many times, to hide that little black dress and tell yourself “That’s for 20 year olds who aren’t moms (um! WRONG!), and all the other little truths you claim to be your own.
Filling your own cup first so that you can then fill others is so common a phrase among moms yet so difficult to implement so I run the risk of being redundant amidst this world of mommies, but I will say this: “Take a moment to do nothing. Sip your warm drink, stare out the window, and quiet your mind. What does your inner child want NOW? What does your inner SELF want NOW? What would you do if you weren’t embarrassed to or felt like it were “inappropriate” to. Don’t put yourself in a box! And, no, don’t run away from you life! Just modify it. Make new decisions starting today. If you’ve already had a sugary breakfast cereal, don’t mark the day as “ruined”. And don’t eat all the bad food in the house in hopes to start eating health afterward (I know you were thinking it!) Have a healthy lunch TODAY, ignite that feisty spirit within you TODAY and take on the role of wife, mom, and feisty woman right now! I hope this short read helps you go into your day with inspiration and a connected inner self.
Happy monday, friends! Remember: Live it Well...because you only live once!
