Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a festive holiday season!
As I mention in the beginning of my youtube video (click image below to view) I am starting early to promote a waste-free, non consumer focussed holiday for my children. So, no, they won't be disappointed by getting a few functional gifts--it will be normal for them, better yet, WONDERFUL because it'll be all they have ever known (Gift information & prices below). That said, I didn't get my son an obscene amount of gifts and I didn't get my 3.5 month old daughter anything. Our Christmas tree is small and potted so we can start the dialogue with my almost-2-year-old son about how trees are really good for us if they stay alive and live outside. So I am excited to plant this tree with him in the New Year. New Year's Tradition underway!! haha!
I got Diego a few books that I know he'll like. Not because screen time is bad--it's not--in fact, it's pretty amazing if you want to get things done! Nevertheless, I want to promote reading with Diego as well as simplicity. So for those reasons I got him a few books that I know he'll like AND (very important) that I won't mind reading to him over and over! If you've ever had a kid who fell in love with a book that you hate to read, you'll know the torture!!!
Besides the board books I got Diego, I also got him a twinkly Christmas tree book because I want to emphasize the Christian aspect of the holiday more than the Santa version. I couldn't find any great nativity stories for kids so I chose a book about animals who search a winter wonderland for Christmas. As a side note: I expect Santa will come up a lot at Christmas over the years and I am more than okay with that. I just plan to keep a balance that favours Christianity and the whole basis for this holiday.
The bath toys are a game changer! First of all the frog toy that swims is easy to use and doesn't require a parent to constantly wind it up for the child; It's simply a pull-string mechanism. Secondly, the lavender bubble bath is both free from harsh chemicals or artificial scents and will calm my kiddo down before bed time! Diego doesn't often get bubbles in his bath, so this will be extra special for him!
lastly I got my son flavoured honey sticks. I tried to put away some bulk candy for him but we kept eating it so I had to give up on that idea and choose something that was sealed shut. Hands up if you can relate to this!! haha! Don't give honey to a child under 1 years old because it can promote a bacterial infection called botulism which frequently brings children into hospitals, even though you may not hear about it in the news or headlines.
I hope you enjoyed this gift guide! Click the video link to watch and hit the descriptions for any additional details on the gifts I got. Merry Christmas!
